NEAMC 2015 winners
For the second year, Nanjing International School played host to the North East Asian Mathematics Competition (NEAMC). One hundred and eight students from eighteen schools across Asia participated in this year’s event and we were pleased to welcome schools from Myanmar and India for the first time.
Starting with an Ice Breaker round on Thursday evening, the students enjoyed three days of mathematics related fun and challenges, working as individuals, teams, and in buddy groups. The Energiser round on the final day truly demonstrated that mathematics can indeed be a spectator sport. The students’ commitment to the competition was outstanding; they should be proud of their accomplishments.
The Haese Mathematics trophy is awarded to a school in recognition of the work the students from one school complete in their buddy groups. I was delighted to present the trophy this year to the British International School of Shanghai (Pudong Campus).
The overall winner of the competition was Team 1 from Seoul International School. The highest scoring individual was from BISS Pudong.
Next year’s competition will be hosted by Western International School of Shanghai and Haese Mathematics look forward to sponsoring the event for a third year. I would like to thank the staff at Nanjing International School, particularly Mr. Malcolm Coad, for their hard work and dedication in making NEAMC the success it is becoming.
