‘Why Mathematics’
Talk presented by Michael Haese at MAWA Primary and Secondary Conference
Abstract: The last 30 years have seen many changes in mathematics education. With most school courses moving to real-world contexts and applications, many have questioned the need or use of traditional mathematics. This talk seeks to balance both sides, highlighting the relevance of mathematics for all students, not just those looking towards STEM careers. It will focus on four aspects of mathematics: a way of thinking, a way of understanding the world around us, a tool for creativity, and a tool for making informed decisions.
